The new conditions when I must file a tax return

Effective the financial year 2019-20, for which return is to be filed in the next year, which is in Tax language, assessment year 2020-21, there’s a new class of ‘to do filing’ of tax return evolved.

This requirement is called ‘requirement to file under 7th proviso of Section 139(1), which contains nothing but the conditions where I am obliged to file my tax return if I am not otherwise required to do so. So this is like, my children are going to school, I must cook tiffin for them, whether I like or not. So the conditions go as:If I indulge in any of these in a year, I fall under the ‘must file’ for that year list-

If I deposit in a year an amount or amounts exceeding Rs.1 crore in one or more current account (with a bank or cooperative society)

If I spend in a year on foreign travel over Rs. 2 lac, (be it for myself or anyone else)

If I incur in a year an expense on electricity over Rs.1 lac towards consumption of electricity.
