What is included under the income head salary

Salary in normal terms is what my employer pays me every month being salary, allowances and perquisites in cash.  Allowances take several forms, such as House Rent Allowance, Dearness Allowance, Medical Allowance to name a few.

It also covers my daily wages if I am a daily wage worker.

It includes my pension from Government or employer post retirement.

It includes any other non cash benefit that my employer may  give, such as a car or telephone for personal use, a house to stay in, bonus that I get, or  Leave Travel Assistance I get.

It includes any arrears I get, any retirement benefits I get (these retirement benefits have special or specified exemption benefits, we are not going into that discussion here)
