I remember my PAN and tax login password. I should login to site www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in, click on login. After successful login, I should click on My Account- View Taxes paid.
Taxes paid are updated quarterly on the tax portal. In fact about a month after close of each quarter. In the last quarter March, it takes a little more time say 2.5-3 months. The year end form is particularly important since it contains the years’s tax information.
It is important to verify that all taxes paid by me and deducted by various payers to me are reflected in Form 26AS. As I will get credit of only taxes appearing in this form. As said, this is my tax paid pass book, so only entries here are recognized by tax department as my taxes. If anything missing, I should ask my deductor to correct it as either he hasn’t filed his tax forms (or hasn’t filed them properly) showing tax deducted and deposited or he hasn’t deposited my taxes. In either missing entry, I am at loss and vulnerable end as Tax Department will not give credit to me, unless it corrects here.
So remember my yearend task before tax return filing is
Collect Form26AS by downloading from my tax portal
Just to remember, this form showing taxes paid is yearwise, so I should download for the year I am looking at.
